HEAR FROM THE TEAM AND COMMUNITY
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT CODING KICKSTARTER CLASSES

“My journey with CFG started in the summer of 2021 when I took the leap and completed one of their evening Coding Kickstarter classes: ‘Introduction to Python’. I loved it and quickly realised coding/tech of some shape or form was where I wanted my career to head. I was fortunate that a couple of lovely, supportive instructors who work at Zopa, taught this Python course – I was presented at the end of the course with the encouragement to apply to the CFG degree because Zopa would be sponsoring 5 places on it.”
Katie Papworth
Database Engineer, Zopa

“Participating in the CFG Kickstarter courses was a transformative experience for me, challenging my preconceived notions about coding and opening my eyes to the accessibility of this skill set. Coming from a background more inclined towards subjects like History, Languages, and Literature, I had always believed that becoming an engineer or developer required an innate aptitude for math and science—a notion that seemed daunting to someone like me. However, the CFG courses shattered this misconception. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that coding is something anyone can learn, regardless of their background, as long as they approach it with the right attitude and determination. The structured nature of the courses played a pivotal role in my learning journey, providing clear guidance and support that enabled me to start coding my own applications and building websites within just a few weeks.”
Soraya Tavakol
Go-To-Market Manager, Amazon Web Services

“Completing the SQL & Data course has significantly boosted my confidence in handling data-related tasks. The course equipped me with practical skills and knowledge in querying databases, manipulating data, and extracting valuable insights. I feel more capable and prepared to tackle data-related challenges in my role.”
Annie Feng Yang
Senior Risk Engineer, Just Eat Takeaway

“Kickstarter courses were specifically designed to address the needs of beginners, providing a structured pathway through the basics of coding. The project-based learning approach allowed me to apply what I learned in practical scenarios, enhancing my problem-solving skills.”
Heather O’Grady
Dynamics Developer, Intellectual Property Office

How do I apply to become an Ambassador?
Applications open annually towards the end of the year – usually around October/November.
Unfortunately, if the applications are closed on this page, then we will no longer be accepting applications for the Ambassador programme for the upcoming year. However, we will have a register your interest form so we can reach out when the next round of applications opens.
You can also keep your eyes out for next year’s enrollment, which usually opens around October/November time!
When do applications open?
Currently, applications open in October/November each year, with the Ambassador onboarding taking part in Jan/Feb and offboarding in December each year.
What is the application process?
If your initial application is successful, we will invite you to complete a video interview (self-recorded).
Those who are successful are then selected to join an interview with the CFG team. The programme commences in January 2026.
Initial video interview: The initial video interview is the second stage of the Ambassador application process and is administered via Hireflix. This is an opportunity for our internal team to get to know you. It is completed alone in front of a webcam and recorded for review. Please treat this like a classic interview, even though the format is unusual. You will get 3 attempts to record each question video response, and there will be a 1-minute time limit per question.
If you have technical issues whilst completing your Hireflix interview, please contact ambassadors@codefirstgirls.com.
Face-to-face virtual interview: Upon success on your initial Hireflix interview, you will get a chance to book your virtual face-to-face interview through Calendly. This is the final interview stage, where you will attend a virtual meeting with our CFG team.
What can you expect: You might be asked to elaborate more on why you want to be a CFG Ambassador and any direct/transferable experiences you have that you would like to bring to the role. This is also your chance to ask questions to learn more about CFG / the Ambassador programme!
As with the initial video interview, we expect applicants to treat this like a classic job interview and follow the tips above to make sure they are presentable, knowledgeable about the Ambassador programme, and able to check their set-up beforehand to make sure they are free from technical disruptions (if online).
Can I apply if I am outside the UK or Ireland?
Absolutely! We’re excited to be launching our first international Ambassador programme in 2026.
For our first year, we’re focusing on the following locations where we have a growing number of companies wanting to connect with candidates in these areas:
- Germany
- Poland
- Romania
- Spain
- Netherlands
- Italy
- France
- United States (Austin)
- Australia
- India
If you’re based elsewhere, please don’t worry, this is only the beginning.
We’ll be announcing the 2027 regions toward the end of 2026, so keep an eye on our website as we continue to expand and build our global CFG community.
Because this is our first international cohort, the scope will be slightly lighter than our UK scheme, but you’ll still have plenty of meaningful ways to get involved and make an impact, including:
- Creating or sharing social posts that champion Code First Girls
- Contributing content for CFG campaigns
- Writing blog posts or recording videos for our platforms
- Taking part in regional or country-based case studies
- Referring new candidates to CFG programmes
- Introducing new companies to our opportunities
- Supporting your local community with advice, encouragement and connections
- Hosting or helping to deliver a regional community event or workshop
How can I prepare for Ambassador interviews?
Here are some general tips for both the initial video interview and the face-to-face interview.
Our previous CFG Ambassadors also provided some tips below.
- Let your personality and vibrancy shine: don’t be afraid to stand out with what makes you unique. Some of the most memorable answers will be more impactful than the polished ones.
- About ChatGPT: It is obvious to us when AI models like ChatGPT have been used. Echoing our previous tip, we much rather have a natural conversation with you!
- Virtual best: whether in person or online, make sure you are engaging directly with the webcam/interviewer, and avoid reading answers from a sheet (having some notes with prompts to the side can help – but keep it subtle). Ensure your background and interview space is distraction-free and your video and audio are working well.
- Mix it up: We would love to hear different examples from the ones you gave on your application form so that we can form a better understanding of your strengths and skills.
- Have questions prepped and practised: research what questions you may be asked and have some answers prepped! This includes things like ‘strengths and weaknesses, ‘what would your friends say about you’, and ‘top three qualities’ as some of the most common questions asked.
- Keep it concise: for your initial and face-to-face video interview, it is important to keep your answers impactful yet concise.
- Know about the Ambassador role and CFG: as an Ambassador, you will have to speak about CFG, so get to know us via our website, impact reports, blogs, etc. It’s also good to get familiar with the expected tasks of being a CFG Ambassador, and showing passion/interest in these.
Lastly, the STAR method will always help: STAR is “Situation, Task, Action and Result” – this will help you to keep your answers succinct and on point, with situational/behaviour questions you may be asked. For more information on this technique please click here.
Here is some advice from our previous Ambassadors:
“Be your authentic self and have a reason why you would like to be an Ambassador 💖”
“Be confident in what you have to offer. You don’t have to have thousands of Insta/TikTok followers to make an impact! 💪🏼 “
“Put yourself into a mindset of ‘they need me because of XYZ’ – and then you can really start drilling into what you have to offer!”
“Let your passion shine through in why you would like to join and help! 🫶🏼”
Is there a job description for the Ambassador role?
Yes, you can read the CFG Ambassador Role Description here.
You can also explore our ambassador programme details section on this page above, which gives a good overview of the commitment, benefits, role and opportunities.
Additionally, check out our current Ambassadors and Ambassdor content also highlighted on this page.
Is this a paid role?
No, this role is primarily a freelance volunteer role.
However, there will be ad hoc paid opportunities available throughout the year (estimated at 3-5 per annum).
A paid opportunity would be a CFG-hosted event where you would be on a panel or have a speaking opportunity. For these opportunities, we pay £30 per hour.
What is the commitment?
We would expect you to commit to the Ambassador programme for 12 months, over this period, and excluding the paid opportunities, we anticipate that this would be a commitment of around ~50 hours for all roundtables, events, L&D training and activities outlined above (with complete flexibility around in-person attendance, prior commitments, work and so forth).
