5 REASONS TO GET INVOLVED IN THE NEW GOVERNMENT TRAINEE SCHEME

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The government will fund employers who provide trainees with work experience, at a rate of £1,000 per trainee. Targeting 16-to-24 year olds, traineeships are intended to get people into their first job after education and usually last from six weeks to six months. Ideally providers should offer an interview for an apprenticeship or job at the end of the scheme.

Code First Girls can provide the tech traineeship learning across one of our three core courses – Python programming, data and SQL, or web development – while your business provides the work experience portion of the traineeship.

But why should you get involved? Here are our top five reasons to educate and train young candidates with Code First Girls with our TECH TRAINEESHIPS.

1. EDUCATING FUTURE TECH LEADERS

This is a great opportunity for businesses to get on board with providing valuable upskilling and high quality training experiences to our future tech leaders. Not only that, we believe that investing in their education, particularly with our Introduction courses, will provide an extra layer of employability for these young candidates and give them the skills they need to get on-the-job training in data, web development or python programming.

2. PROMOTING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

A key challenge in tech and across most industries is diversity and inclusion – both by gender and ethnicity. By partnering with CFG, we have a community of women represented by  58 nationalities and 50%+ BAME candidates. It is a strong message to increase the employability of young people and also to provide opportunities for underrepresented groups within your organisation.

3. CREATING EMPLOYMENT PIPELINES

What better way to start building out your employment pipeline by creating your own pool of talented candidates? Starting with our courses, candidates will be given an education in key tech areas (data, python, web development). Combined  with practical experience in your business, this will give you a strong candidate pool for future employment opportunities, and create a valuable employment pipeline for tech areas.

4. FRESH AND INNOVATIVE THINKING

Did you know our community created a breast cancer prediction model as part of their final project and have developed a recipe and food sharing platform aimed at reducing waste and helping communities in need? We could list hundreds of examples of the amazing projects our learners have developed as part of their course output. With fresh eyes and a keenness to think outside the box, there could be numerous opportunities and innovations that a trainee who has completed a CFG course could bring to the table to help improve your business. They are the future leaders of tech with brilliant minds and ideas – a valuable asset to any business.

5. EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION

It is well documented that mentoring increases employee engagement and satisfaction. Giving the opportunity for an employee (or group of employees) to help upskill and give practical experience and advice to a young person is incredibly rewarding. In fact, according to a recent survey, ‘’company culture’ and ‘social impact’ are the top two reasons our community are attracted to a job.

We will be working with businesses to help build out the TECH TRAINEESHIPS with a focus on Python programming, data science & SQL and web development courses, combined with a set traineeship period in the workplace starting November 2020.
