HOW FLUTTER RETAINS TECH TALENT WITH EMPLOYEE UPSKILLING
Flutter UK & Ireland, part of Flutter Entertainment – the world leader in online sports betting and iGaming, operating some of the world’s most innovative, diverse, and distinctive brands in the sector, including Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Betting & Gaming – first partnered with Code First Girls in 2022 to attract entry-level tech talent. Building on this success, Flutter sought to ensure that the talent they sponsored continued to thrive into mid-level engineering roles.
Through a Code First Teams pilot programme, Flutter is retaining their tech talent by offering employee upskilling through Code First Girl’s Mid-Level Accelerator. By investing in their tech employees’ skills and career progression, Flutter is enhancing both employee engagement and retention.

The Challenge
Knowing that 50% of women will leave tech roles by the age of 35, Flutter UKI sought to create employee upskilling opportunities that would not only support career development but also positively impact their wider teams and company culture, ensuring long-term success and inclusivity across the organisation.
The Solution
Flutter UKI took a proactive approach to employee development by sponsoring internal employees on the Mid-Level Accelerator program, demonstrating their commitment to employee upskilling and fostering career growth. Two participants were former CFGdegree graduates with 1.5–2 years of experience in their roles, showcasing the impact of long-term investment in early career development. With the support and guidance of Code First Teams, Flutter launched an internal application process for the program. The exceptional quality of applicants led them to increase the number of available places, ensuring even more employees could benefit from this tailored learning opportunity.
